Atos Foundation was established in 1982 as a Derde Wereld Fonds by some employees of BSO (Buro System Development). In the beginning, a number of children were sponsored through the Foster Parents Plan (later PLAN). After a few years all BSO colleagues were asked to donate via a monthly donation. Thanks to the cooperation of the Director of BSO, Eckart Wintzen, the deposited funds were doubled for several years. Following the acquisition of BSO by Origin named Derde Wereld Fonds Origin was then Derde Wereld Fonds Atos Origin. In 1999 the activities were transferred to an independent foundation, with only Atos Origin employees in the administration. Partly because of the transition from Atos Origin to Atos in the name was changed in 2012 into Atos Foundation.
